In a study reported by the Academy of General Dentistry, dental plaque PH was examined in subjects aged 12-15 before and after eating cheese, milk or sugar-free yoghurt. The higher the PH (above 5.5), the lower the possibility of cavity development.
Subjects who ate cheese showed a fast increase in PH level, which implied anti-cavity properties.
Other studies have found that cheese provides positive protection qualities. Cheese makes us produce more saliva to clear food (which also helps neutralize acid), and increases the concentration of calcium that can help replace minerals lost from acid damage from sugary drinks and snacks.
