Tooth Loss Linked to Slower Mind and Body

Patients ask us if there’s any truth behind the notion that losing teeth can cause memory problems. Actually, there is.

A study reported a few years ago in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society reported that older adults who have lost all of their teeth are more likely to experience decline in memory. The study said that these individuals also experienced more walking/gait issues as compared to seniors who have at least some of their natural teeth.

The study looked at more than 3,000 adults over age 60. Results showed that folks who had no remaining natural teeth performed about 10% worse in both memory and walking speed tests as compared to people with teeth.
