The Invisalign system uses a series of clear, plastic “aligners”
that fit over the teeth, much like a thin, tightly-fitted mouth guard. Every
two weeks or so, the patient “steps up” to a new set of aligners
(one for the upper teeth and one for the lower) which will slowly, millimeter
by millimeter, move the teeth into the desired position. The treatment period
can be as little as 9 months or could be 18 months or longer for more serious
cases. But patients typically have much less concern about the length of time
that they are in Invisalign because the aligners are comfortable and virtually
invisible on the teeth.
