Looking to buy your Valentine some last minute sweets for tomorrow? We’ve all heard stories about the virtues of dark chocolate, in the news the past few years since it appears to be better for our overall health than milk chocolate.
Turns out that dark chocolate is actually better for our teeth as well. It’s pretty simple: dark chocolate, consisting of 72% cocoa, contains a lot less sugar than milk chocolate. Lower sugar levels mean less acid production and less chance for enamel erosion. And, in theory, we tend to eat smaller quantities of dark chocolate since we’re more easily satisfied.
If you’re planning on gifting someone special something chocolaty this Valentine’s Day, why not say “I love you” with the darker variety? And Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us here at Williamsburg Dental!
